USTRANSCOM To Be Honored As Inaugural Recipient of International Humanitarian of the Year Award

World Affairs Council of St. Louis set to recognize ‘inspiring humanitarian efforts’ of USTRANSCOM, led by General Duncan J. McNabb

ST. LOUIS (June 6, 2011) -- The World Affairs Council of St. Louis announced that it will recognize the efforts of the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), led by Gen. Duncan J. McNabb, with the organization’s inaugural International Humanitarian of the Year Award.

The organization’s top award will honor USTRANSCOM for its humanitarian and disaster relief efforts around several devastating crises that have captured the world’s attention. These include the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011, the Pakistan flood in January 2011, as well as the massive earthquake that rocked Haiti in 2010.

“It is a true honor to recognize the outstanding and inspiring humanitarian efforts that USTRANSCOM and General Duncan J. McNabb have provided to tens-of-thousands people throughout our world,” said Robert A. Fischer, executive director of the World Affairs Council of St. Louis. “These efforts have saved countless lives and brought much needed relief to devastating circumstances. USTRANSCOM’s support captures the spirit of our organization’s inaugural International Humanitarian of the Year Award.”

“I could not be more proud of the men and women of the U.S. Transportation Command,” said Gen. McNabb. “Daily, I'm amazed and humbled by what our people accomplish.”

The World Affairs Council of St. Louis will bestow the recognition as part of its inaugural International Humanitarian of the Year Award ceremony. The invitation-only event will be held this Thursday evening at the Chase Park Plaza. The World Affairs Council of St. Louis noted that a portion of the event’s proceeds will be contributed to the U.S.O. facility at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
