Turkish Cultural Festival at 2720 Cherokee

Wed, 11/16/2011 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm

It’s only $20.00 for authentic Turkish food catered
by Aya Sofia restaurant, a performance by Mr. Farshid Soltanshahi, a
widely renowned Persian musician who tours nationally and is returning home to
St. Louis so that he can perform for us, a performance by a professional belly
dancer, and several booths to tour where you can learn about Turkish history
and art.  Some of the booths will be hands-on, so you can take home your
own work of art at the end of the evening if you want!  Or just sit back
with a cocktail, a hookah, and some baklava and watch the dancing and listen to
the music.  I really don’t see how you could go wrong by coming to this
event!  See below for all the formal details.

Study
Tour of Turkey

Sponsored jointly by the Turkish
Cultural Foundation and WAC, teachers from Webster Groves High School, Rosati-Kain
High School, and Brunswick R-II, were part of a group of 57 high school
teachers that visited Turkey for two weeks during the summer of 2011. Added to
those WAC selected and sent in previous years, 17 teachers from St. Louis have
now taken part in this program. The goal is for these teachers to work with WAC
to develop cultural and educational programs that introduce Turkey to the local
community and into their class rooms.
