First Annual International Humanitarian of the Year Award

   The 2011 Annual Humanitarian Award is the first in its series and will recognize the humanitarian efforts of the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), led by General Duncan J. McNabb, which provided disaster relief during several unparalleled crises that occured in the past few years. The crises include:

-Japan Earthquake and Tsunami during which McNabb and his team moved over 7,000 family members and 409 pets to stateside locations and supported all military air missions with aerial refueling that provided nearly half a million pounds of fuel.

-Haiti Earthquake: General Duncan J. McNabb led the team that set targets to supply a daily stream of at least 125 tractor trailers' worth of food, water and supplies. The St. Louis Business Journal was quoted saying "Transportation Command at Scott AFB played a crucial role in Haiti relief."

-Pakistan Flood: General Duncan J. McNabb traveled to Pakistan and met with General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, after massive flooding. Then, with the help of 360 soldiers and marines flown from the US, moved more than 4.7 million pounds of humanitarian supplies and 13,000 persons displaced by the flooding.

     General Duncan J. McNabb is commander of the United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base. As command pilot, he has ammassed more than 5,400 flying hours in transport and rotary wing aircraft. During operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, General Duncan J. McNabb commanded the 41st Military Airlift Squadron, which earned Military Airlift Command's Airlift Squadron of the year in 1990. The general commanded the 89th Operations Group, overseeing the air transportation of our nation's leaders, including the President. He also served as the Director for Logistics on the Joint Staff , where he was responsible for operational logistics and strategic mobility support to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense.

      The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), located at Scott Air Force Base, was established in 1987 and is one of 10 unified commands. As the single manager of America's global defense transportation system, USTRANSCOM is tasked with the coordination of people and transportation assets to allow our country to project and sustain forces for as long as they are needed. Responding to the needs of the Department of Defense's warfighting commanders is its number one priority.
